[30-05-26] The Ballet is Haunted and Other Vampiric Tales

placeholder

I went to my first ever ballet last night. It was a rendition of Dracula, a book which I didn't manage to finish before the show, but what little I'd gotten through was enough context for me to understand what I was seeing. It was absolutely magnificent, and

I can't wait to go to another ballet, hopefully soon. My favourite ballerina was the one that played Lucy. She was so graceful, especially when sleepwalking, and the way her movements changed in her vampiric state was such a nice detail.

The air was staked with the stench of red wine, likely wafting from the person sat next to me, so the entire atmosphere entered that darkened, ancient castle. It was as if I were somewhere I shouldn't have been, watching from a stone-clad window as lights flickered in the distance. And the music! There was a live orchestra, and they were incredible. I don't know enough about music to talk about the logistics. All I can say is that I felt it deeply.

And by felt it, I meant I felt haunted by it. It was haunting. The music, the lighting, the dance. Is ballet haunted? No, it must be sweet when it wants to be, because there were glimpses of that kind of peace, not that anyone in Dracula ever got to hold onto that feeling for long.

The magic of this extended into the hallways outside the theatre itself. There were many sketches of ballerinas and bats, and placed beside them were vampire-related paraphernalia, all encased in glass cabinets beneath a bloodied glow.

This was a very fun night. I can't wait to continue reading Dracula. So far, it's one of my favourite classics, though I haven't read many. And I'm watching the new season of Dimension 20, which is also about vampires. I love it so much, and as expected Zaeth is my favourite character, though Darkness Man and Madelaine are close seconds. On top of that, the novel I'm currently planning has a character who is a vampire. They're everywhere! What a wonderful entrance into winter, to be surrounded by stories of vampires.

[16-05-26] And I Persist!
Wow... I'm actually not trying to avoid any responsibilities right now. Which means I'm blogging for the sake of blogging! Maybe I will manage to keep this up after all. There's not really much to talk about, though. I ended up getting the internship. My supervisor forgot about the interview... but we called and it was all good. I just hope he doesn't forget that he gave me the internship.

That's about all that's happened recently. I did go on a hike yesterday, which was really fun. The weather's finally cooling down, so I'm excited to explore more trails and finally go camping again. The walk was rather uneventful and super peaceful. There was a random dog that would appear in intervals, allow us to pet them, and then run off again. They looked too clean and well-fed to be a stray, though I didn't get a good look at their teeth. I tried to follow them the first time they vanished, but obviously a dog is much faster than I'll ever be, and could access more bushland than the trails allowed me to.

It rained the morning of the hike, so the creeks were flowing and the lakes were filled. My friend and I competed to see who could hold our hands in the freezing water longer, and it was an easy win. I actually appreciated the cold, since it was abnormally hot for an autumn day. Except... the night was not so forgiving. I absolutely froze last night, and I think my right leg might be slightly fucked up because of that. It hurts whenever I put my weight on it, or move my ankle. Oh well, it'll be right. Maybe it's a sign that I should actually start using my heater.

[11-05-26] A Long While Later...
How has it been over 5 months since I last blogged? I mean, I did say I wouldn't use this blog much, and I guess I've stayed true to that, but I have created some things I meant to put here and just never did. I feel like I keep neglecting the older pages on this site to create new pages, which is kind of pointless because what did I bother making all these old pages for then? I definitely want to start using them more, including this blog. So, I'm gonna stop making more pages (...ignore how I just made an interrogation page) and start building on what I've already got here. Now, to actually blog for the first time ever!

Life has been really busy recently, especially with uni-related stuff. Exams are coming up real soon, and on top of that I'm applying for internships. I've got a 'coffee interview' this week, which has kept me nervous since I agreed to it, so I'm finding it hard to actually be productive and get stuff done. It sort of feels paralysing, like I won't be able to move on with my life until this big, scary thing is no longer pending.

So, here I am, sitting on the grassy patch in front of the building which houses my 4pm to 6pm, non-compulsory class. I'm pretty sure no one but me is going to show up. There's nobody nearby, at least. But what else have I got to do except mull over something inevitable? Truthfully, I should be doing something inevitable. I should be making use of the dull waiting to prep for that interview, or to study for my upcoming exams. Instead, I'm writing a blog post. Hopefully I can keep this up even when I'm not trying to avoid anything. And when something interesting in my life is actually happening.

...People have finally started to gather. Classes are letting out, new classes letting in. I better get going.

Update: 10 of us showed up to class. That doesn't sound like a lot, but it's around the same number of people who attended the last two labs.

[08-12-25] What to Expect
I created this blog just in case I want to put anything here, but I don't think it's going to be used that often. I'm not really a diary person, so I assume I'll be a blog person even less. Still, blogs are so fun! So I'll probably try to write sometimes, but this might just become a space for me to write updates and post photos of WIPs, DIY projects, and other things that don't have a designated place on this site.
